      Junction and Das Rec invite you to join us for a 4 WEEK
      SWING SERIES. In August DAS REC is offering "Jitterbug
      Swing" and "Two Step Country Swing" dance classes starting
      August 7th and to spice things up a "Friday Night Sock Hop" on
      the second Friday of the month, starting August 10th. A fun night out for
      you and your date or the family. All ages, no partner needed. 

Two-stepping and swing dancing go together like
chips and salsa. You can apply all the turns, spins, and pretzels of East
Coast and Jitterbug swing to two-stepping.

      SWING
       Level 1A and Level 1B 
    • Alternating each 4 Weeks – Tuesdays 7 PM at DAS REC – New Braunfels Recreation Center
    • Never done Swing dancing before?  This is where
      you start. Learn the basics of the dance and how to lead and
      follow. The Level 1A and B syllabus each covers
      4 weeks. Once you’ve done your 4 weeks in Level 1A and 1B
      you can move up to Level 2A & 2B at the American Legion on
      Wednesdays. Level two is meant to be taken multiple times.

Stride on that local Dance Hall floor in
comfort, leading your partner through moving and turning patterns. Learn to
lead, follow and dance to a song comfortably, after one class. 
The two-step is just an easy way to start
dancing. Once you get it, you got it. 
All ages. No partner needed.

You’ve been in
Level 1 for 4 or more weeks so and now you’re looking to try
something a little harder. Here you learn new moves, new rhythms and a whole
lot of new variations you can add to the moves you already know. Level 1 was
your introduction but here’s where you really see how big the Swing world can
get. This will introduce you to 6 count triple steps and more advanced patterns
with 8 count steps like the 8 count Swingout and partner Charleston steps. This
class alternates between 2A and 2B every 4 Weeks.

    • Here
      we explore the moves and rhythms of the Lindy Hop further with a greater
      emphasis on lead and follow techniques, musical appreciation and of
      course FUN!  The moves will become a little trickier and the speeds
      will be faster.

Before taking
part, students must have attended Level 2 regularly for 6 months or more.
 They must display a good understanding of rhythm and pulse, a good
understanding of the Swing Out and must know: Back Charleston, Hand
to Hand Charleston.

SHIM SHAM SHIMMY

The Swing Dancers
line dance. Everybody is welcome. This fun line dance is also done all around
the world. 
Come join us for four sections with Boogie Woogie steps
to finish it off.

 

JITTERBUG
STROLL 

Great starter
Swing Line dance. This fun line dance is known all around the world.

Originally
Choreographed by dancer and choreographer Ryan Francois from London, Frankie
Manning’s prodigy, well known for his work in the early renaissance of Swing in
the 1980’s and 1990’s and his work on and off broadway
and TV appearances such as Dancing with the Stars. Fun for all, no partner
needed, great Swing Line Dance. Besides the Shim Sham we will start
incorporating this at all our dances! 

The Jitterbug
Stroll will be danced to the “Woodchoppers Ball” by Woody Herman.

SPECIALTY CLASS (Know your basics)

COLLEGIATE SHAG

This swing dance
developed in the early 1930’s and uses lots of kick steps and is danced close
and breaks away from you partner and has regained huge popularity around the
globe. Just right for that great fast song that is playing next!

 

BALBOA SWING

This swing dance
developed in Southern California in the mid 1930’s and is a smooth version of
the shag. It has a smooth feel and is danced close to your partner (Pure
Balboa) and has some break away steps  after
swing steps were added to the dance in the late 1930’s (Balboa Swing).
